Target Address

A Target Address in the Fuel Name Service (FNS) is the blockchain address that your domain name resolves to. By setting a target address, you associate your human-readable domain (e.g., yourname.fuel) with a Fuel wallet address. This allows others to send assets or interact with you using your domain name instead of a long and complex wallet address.

Key Points About Target Addresses:

  • Simplifies Transactions: Makes it easier for others to send you assets by using your domain name.

  • Flexibility: You can update the target address at any time if your wallet address changes.

  • Ownership Control: Only the owner of the domain (the NFT holder) can set or modify the target address.

Important Note for Primary Names:

  • For Primary Names, the target address cannot be changed. The primary name will always point to the owner address—the wallet address that owns the domain (NFT). This ensures that your primary domain consistently represents your own wallet, enhancing security and trust.

How to Set Up Your Target Address

For Non-Primary Domains:

1. Navigate to “My Domains” and select the Domain to Configure:

  • Log in to your FNS account and go to the “My Domains” section to see all the domains you own.

  • Click on the domain name for which you want to set or update the target address. This will open the domain management page.

  1. . Set Your Target Address:

  • You will see a field labeled “Target Address”.

  • Enter your desired Fuel wallet address in the provided field. Make sure the address is correct to avoid misdirected transactions.

5. Save Changes:

  • Click the “Update” button to apply the changes.

  • You will be prompted to sign a transaction with your wallet to confirm the update.

  • Review the transaction details to ensure everything is correct.

  • Approve the transaction to finalize the setting of your target address.

For Primary Names:

  • No Configuration Needed: Since the target address for a primary name is automatically set to the owner address (the wallet that owns the domain NFT), you do not need to manually set or change the target address.

  • Immutable Association: The target address of a primary name cannot be changed as long as it remains your primary name. This ensures that your primary domain always points to your own wallet address.

Changing Ownership:

  • If you transfer the domain NFT to another wallet, the primary name status and its target address will update accordingly.

  • The new owner can choose to set it as their primary name, and it will then point to their wallet address.

Important Notes:

Security Precautions:

  • Always double-check the wallet address you enter for non-primary domains to prevent any errors.

  • Be cautious when accessing your domain settings, especially on shared or public computers.

  • Updating the Target Address for Non-Primary Domains:

  • You can change the target address at any time by repeating the steps above.

  • Useful if you switch to a new wallet or want to redirect assets to a different address.

  • Benefits of Immutable Target Address for Primary Names:

  • Enhanced Security: Since the target address cannot be changed, it reduces the risk of misconfiguration or malicious redirects.

  • Consistent Identity: Ensures that your primary name always represents your personal wallet, maintaining consistency across the Fuel network.

Benefits of Setting a Target Address:

  • Enhanced Usability: Others can interact with you more easily, fostering better communication and transactions.

  • Professional Identity: Having a consistent domain linked to your wallet enhances your presence in the Fuel ecosystem.

  • Error Reduction: Minimizes the risk of others sending assets to the wrong address due to typos.
