How to Mint a Domain

Minting a domain on the Fuel Name Service (FNS) allows you to own a unique, human-readable name on the Fuel blockchain. Each domain represents a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) and is owned by the address that minted it. This means you have full ownership of your domain, and it can be transferred to another wallet as an NFT. This guide provides step-by-step instructions to help you mint a domain easily. You can use these steps alongside screenshots to create a comprehensive walkthrough for users.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A Fuel-Compatible Wallet: You need a wallet that supports the Fuel blockchain to interact with FNS.

  • Sufficient Fuel Tokens: Make sure your wallet has enough Fuel tokens to cover the minting cost and transaction fees.

  • Stable Internet Connection: To access the FNS website and complete transactions smoothly.

Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Connect Your Wallet

  • Click “Connect Wallet” button at the top right corner of the Fuel Name Service homepage.

  • Select your wallet in the pop-up window(e.g., MetaMask with Fuel support). Currently, Fuel supports only Solana and Ethereum wallets.

  • Authorize the connection: follow the prompts in your wallet to connect it to the FNS website.

Step 2: Search for Your Desired Domain

  • Find the search bar in the center of the homepage and type in the domain name you wish to register (e.g., yourname.fuel).

  • Press “enter” or click the search icon to check whether the chosen domain is available.

Step 3: Select and register the Domain

  • Review the search results, if the domain is available, it will be indicated in green.

  • Toggle “Use as Primary Name” (Optional): If you want the chosen domain to be immediately associated with your wallet address, toggle the “Use as Primary Name” option. This will link the domain to your wallet, allowing others to interact with you using this name. More information on primary names can be found here. You can change this setting at any time in your account settings.

  • Select how long you want to register your domain for (e.g., 1 year, 2 years). The total cost will adjust based on that.

  • Once you choose the needed setting, click the “Register” button.

Step 4: Approve the Transaction in Your Wallet

  • Your wallet will open a transaction confirmation window. Carefully review transaction details: check the price and the wallet address.

  • If everything is correct, approve the transaction: click “Confirm” or “Approve” in your wallet.

Step 5: Wait for the Minting Process to Complete

  • After the transaction is completed, your newly minted domain will be displayed on the screen.

  • Now you can also navigate to the “My Domains” section in your account to view all the domains you own.

Tips and Troubleshooting

  • Insufficient Funds: If the transaction fails, check your wallet balance and add more Fuel tokens if necessary.

  • Network Delays: If the transaction is pending for a long time, it might be due to network congestion. Wait a few minutes and refresh the page.

  • Browser Compatibility: Ensure your browser is up-to-date and supports your wallet extension.

Next Steps

After minting your domain:

  • Set Up Address Resolution: Link your domain to your Fuel wallet address so others can send assets to your domain. See how to do it here.

  • Stay Updated: Follow FNS on social media or subscribe to updates for the latest features and announcements.
